A chronological list of countries
I have been briding since a was about 10 years old. I've been to over 45 countries and have seen just over 2,700 species (winter 2024-25).
I have done the following Birding Trips around the world:
- 1977 - Morocco, 2 weeks, family trip
- 1979 - Austria and Hungary, 1 week
- 1979 - Poland, 2 weeks, family trip
- 1980 - France, mainly Camargue, 1 week
- 1984 - Tunisia, 2 weeks
- 1985 - Kyrgyzstan (back then SSSR) and Russia (back then SSSR), 2 weeks
- 1987 - Morocco, 1 week
- 1987 - Egypt, 2 weeks
- 1987 - Interrail round Europe (UK, Ireland, France, Spain, Hungary), 4 weeks
- 1988 - Japan (work, 1+ week), Hawaii, and Mexico (1 week vacation)
- 1988 - Turkey, 2 weeks
- 1989 - Israel, 2 weeks
- 1990-91 - Gambia 2 weeks over new year
- 1990 - Turkey, 2 weeks
- 1992 - Mexico, 3 weeks
- 1992 - Finland, with species like Red-flanked Bluetail , Little Bunting, Arctic Warbler, and Yellow-breasted Bunting, 1 week
- 1993 - Singapore (work) and Peninsular Malaysia, 2 weeks
- 1995-1996 - Borneo (Sabah) around new year with Bongo, 2 weeks
- 1997 - Uruguay, 4 weeks
- 2000 - Uruguay, 2 weeks
- 2004 - Brazil, mainly for collecting tropical fish, but got a few new birds, 2 weeks
- 2007 - US, Chicago area, 1 week
- 2008 - US west coast, from Seattle to San Francisco (beer/brewery trip with some birding), 4 weeks
- 2010 - Western US, 5 week trip from Seattle down the coast and inland east of the Rockies back to Seattle
- 2012 - Thailand for 2 weeks. With Birdfinders, the worst tour organizer I've ever traveled with. CANNOT recommend.
- 2014 - Bulgaria and Greece in February, 2 weeks
- 2014 - Mongolia for 2 weeks
- 2015 - Costa Rica for 2 weeks with Zoothera Birding and the Superb local guide Charlie Gomez
- 2016 - Hungary for Bee-eaters and other colorful birds mostly from hides
- 2018 - A car trip around central Europe, 3 weeks
- 2018 - Japan, Hokkaido and northern Honshu in February/March, 2 weeks. with Wild Nature fotoresor. One of the better trips I've been on.
- 2019 - Yunnan in China in February, 2 weeks
- 2019 - Australia, mainly Victoria, eastern South Australia, and south-western corner of New South Wales, 4 weeks
